Artist's Comments

Last night I went to a house where some children lived. The Wilson children.

This girl is called Emma. She had a little house she'd made at the bottom of the garden lined with bricks and decorated with things she'd found around the garden.

It reminded me so much of my favorite childhood story 'Roxaboxen.' Later, Emma and I read that story and I cried. It was the first time I'd read it since I was a child, and anyone who knows the ending to that story will understand.

***

I guess you could call this an environmental portrait, as this shows Emma, a child, in her 'natural habitat.'

Thanks to Emma Wilson for being my model.

I like the way the leaves are growing over her doorway. This is such a great shot, and because she believes in it, I'm finding myself believing too that that's not just an empty doorframe, but it's the front door to her house, to her own private world.

Isn't it nice to go somewhere sometimes where nobody else can go?
:) I love this xx

That's EXACTLY the reaction i wanted from this shot!
thankyou :D

I think it's because her face is completely serious about it, and so it made me think "actually, yeah. she's right. this is real. she believes it so it must be real."
I've always felt that way about you and God. You believe, and so I believe that it is real, even if it were only real for you.

I love you xxx
